Laser Beam Shaping components play a crucial role when aiming for optimal results in laser material processing. In many cases, substantially improved results can be yielded by employing rectangular or top-hat profiles in their spatial intensity distribution, compared to a Gaussian profile, which most lasers display. Beam splitters which allow for parallel processing using only one laser can enormously contribute to cost effectiveness.
In cooperation with TOPAG Lasertechnik GmbH we develop refractive beam shaping elements. Beam shaping elements made from glass are superior to plastic elements when it comes to the endurance at high intensities that often occur in laser material processing. We also provide elements made from glass types adequate for the ultraviolet (UV) spectral range.
Powell lenses are used in order to generate lines from a Gaussian profile. A homogenous intensity distribution can be achieved along the line, while the Gaussian intensity profile remains in the vertical orientation. Line generators can be manufactured with an aperture angle of a few degrees up to 90°. Contrary to the Powell lenses currently available, which are produced by manual means, GD Optics employs an innovative glass molding process. Reproducibility as well as cost effectiveness are substantially increased this way.
Contrary to the solutions in glass currently available, which are produced by lithographic means, GD Optics employs its proprietary glass molding technology in order to manufacture Gauss-to-Tophat beam shapers. Reproducibility as well as cost effectiveness are substantially increased this way.
